The 2025 collection
A good year for bad situations.
All seven films filed under 2025 in the catalog now have developed review manuscripts. Six received a new first pass; the existing Companion review is retained. Verdicts and advisories remain proposals for the owner's review.
The seven films
| Film | Director | Proposed verdict |
|---|---|---|
| 28 Years Later | Danny Boyle | Watch with caveats |
| Companion | Drew Hancock | Worth watching |
| One Battle After Another | Paul Thomas Anderson | Worth watching |
| The Secret Agent / O Agente Secreto | Kleber Mendonça Filho | Worth watching |
| Sinners | Ryan Coogler | Worth watching |
| Superman | James Gunn | Watch with caveats |
| Weapons | Zach Cregger | Worth watching |
Different reasons to investigate
Sinners gives communal pleasure and music a substantial place inside its horror. Weapons builds its mystery through competing viewpoints, while 28 Years Later finds its strongest material in a child's changing understanding of his parents and of care. Their advisories differ in significant ways, even where all three contain graphic violence.
Companion examines control within an apparently agreeable relationship. One Battle After Another makes a father's failures part of an urgent political pursuit. The Secret Agent develops suspense through refuge, memory and the daily reach of authority. Each has a distinct account of what one person can demand from another.
Superman makes rescue and kindness the centre of its comic-book world, with a crowded structure that complicates the recommendation. Sincerity and deliberate corniness are assessed as choices rather than treated as automatic faults.
The linked articles explain their proposals. Inclusion in the collection establishes neither an endorsement nor an approved related-film recommendation.
Before you choose
- 28 Years Later: severe gore, child peril, serious parental illness, bereavement, animal death and childbirth imagery. A later assisted-death context has a separate disclosure.
- Companion: sexual assault, coercive control, bloody violence, forced self-injury and suicide.
- One Battle After Another: abduction and danger involving a teenager, sexual coercion and rape references, racist language and ideology, violence and drug misuse. Flashing images are flagged by the BBFC.
- The Secret Agent: bloody violence and corpses, persecution, discriminatory language, strong sex and nudity, and child bereavement. The brief rape reference is dialogue.
- Sinners: severe supernatural violence, historical racism, strong sexual content, animal death and grief over an infant.
- Superman: moderate fantasy violence, painful captivity, civilian and child peril, and a dog in danger. The BBFC flags flashing images.
- Weapons: child disappearance and abuse, extreme bloody violence, coerced self-injury and substance misuse.
The individual pages give context before the critical argument develops. Exact character outcomes and revealing scene details stay behind closed disclosures.
Titles, dates and versions
This collection uses the catalog's 2025 release year. Regional 2025 releases and reissues of older films do not create additional entries here.
O Agente Secreto retains its original catalog title and Seen-list mapping. The Secret Agent is its English title and is searchable on the collection page. Its 2025 Cannes listing records 158 minutes; the BBFC cinema presentation runs 160 minutes 30 seconds. The review records both without assuming an undocumented alternate edit or changing the film's year because of later regional releases.
The other new manuscripts identify the released theatrical feature as their baseline. A shorter home-video timing alone does not establish missing scenes. 28 Years Later also now correctly distinguishes Danny Boyle's direction from Alex Garland's screenplay credit, as recorded by Sony Pictures.
The new first-pass criticism is source-based and claims no fresh viewing. Numerical Corny DNA scores remain unassigned. The drafts remain under editorial review.
