The film

Forrest's life intersects with major events in twentieth-century America while his attachment to Jenny runs through his personal story. Tom Hanks, Robin Wright, Gary Sinise, Mykelti Williamson and Sally Field lead the cast.

Editorial direction

The review should assess the performances, the relationships and the balance of comedy and sentiment. Its treatment of American history and of Forrest and Jenny deserves specific analysis rather than relying on the film's reputation. Sincerity is not automatically corniness; the question is how effectively the film earns its emotions and what its framing leaves out.

Corny DNA

All six axes remain unscored. Popularity, sentiment and familiarity do not establish campiness or a recommendation.
